The Jack Tilton Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new sculpture by Berlin based artist Thomas Kiesewetter. This is his first solo show in the United States.
The exhibition includes 5 abstract metal sculptures that are at once industrial and organic in form, both rigid and elegant in feel. Angular, geometric forms take on human characteristics as one seems frozen mid stride. Another piece resembles an impossible design for a flying machine. All the works allow for an open relationship with the viewer, leaving much room for imagination.
Materiality and form are central concerns in Kiesewetter’s work. Scraps of sheet metal bolted together and painted, his sculptures have an architectural sensibility and a modernist aesthetic. The funky constructions sometimes seem make-shift yet achieve a precise balance and a strong and whimsical presence.
Thomas Kiesewtter’s work has also been exhibited at ICA Boston, at Roberts & Tilton Gallery in LA, and at various venues in Berlin including Galerie Neu.
