Patty Chang

....

The Jack Tilton/Anna Kustera Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new work by Patty Chang. The exhibition will include photographic work
as well as video installations, with a live performance the night of the
opening on November 2nd at 7pm.

Patty Chang is both a performer and image maker. Her performances, or
as she refers to them as ³time based sculptures², are examinations of the
female experience. They are often visceral and humiliatingly vulnerable.
Her performances characterized by physical and often enduring challenges are
a brash confrontation of the metaphoric and erotic.

³Seduction and breakdown,² in Patty Chang¹s own words, are the central
concepts of this her second solo exhibition at the gallery. Chang¹s new
performances (live and video documentation) continue to probe femaleness
through ³actions² of exertion and restraint that deal with the struggle,
hysteria, illusion and the vulnerability of being a woman in contemporary
society.

Patty Chang¹s work is currently included in Casino 2001 at S.M.A.K. and
the Bijloke Museum in Ghent, Belgium, on view through January 13th, 2002.

PATTY CHANG has been extended until December 15th.
